Energiekontor AG provided engineering consultancy and project-design input for the proposed Nordergründe offshore wind farm project in the German North Sea. In wpd AG’s announcement of its acquisition of the project, wpd stated that Energiekontor AG had “delivered a sound technical design” for Nordergründe, indicating that Energiekontor’s work supported the project’s early-stage technical definition and readiness for subsequent procurement and construction activities. The referenced design scope related to an 18-turbine offshore wind farm planned within Germany’s 12-nautical-mile zone, located around 15 km north-east of the island of Wangerooge and north of the city of Wilhelmshaven, in water depths up to about 10 m. The technical design work would typically cover core engineering documentation and design basis elements needed for a bankable concept and for the next owner to progress detailed engineering, contracting, and execution planning. This design contribution was acknowledged at the point of transaction, with wpd planning to take the project forward toward commissioning in 2016. The role reflects Energiekontor’s involvement in the development-stage engineering and design development of the Nordergründe offshore wind farm prior to wpd’s ownership.
