Deutsche Windtechnik carried out seabed survey work at the Nordergründe offshore wind farm using crew transfer vessels modified to deploy a Kongsberg multibeam sonar through a moonpool. The survey set-up was used to monitor seabed changes such as sand waves and scour around turbine and substation foundations, and to survey cable routes with particular attention to cable entry points, cable cover and trench depth to identify exposure risks. The approach enabled more frequent bathymetric/geophysical monitoring by combining surveys with other wind farm offshore tasks during operations.
