The competent authority BSH completed the two-step authorisation of the Nordergründe offshore wind farm by granting the second step of the project permit in 2008. This followed earlier environmental assessments and consultations and built on the first-step permit granted in 2007. With this second-stage permit, BSH finalised regulatory approval for construction and operation of the 111 MW offshore wind farm in coastal waters of the German North Sea, with the permit explicitly conditional on specified mitigation measures and compensating payments designed to address local impacts on birds and visual landscape.
