Onshore construction for the Nordergründe grid connection advanced in 2013 with the expansion of the onshore substation that receives power from the wind farm. Power Technology reports that, after laying works for the 4 km land cable began in autumn 2012, the associated substation was expanded in 2013 to accommodate the new 155 kV export connection from the 111 MW Nordergründe offshore wind farm to the Inhausen substation, where electricity is fed into the 220 kV grid. Together with the 28 km subsea section, this formed a 32 km AC link enabling evacuation of power from the 18 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines installed in shallow coastal waters of the German North Sea. The onshore civil works and electrical upgrades at the substation mark the start of substantive onshore construction activity linked to the project’s transmission infrastructure.
