The Nordergründe offshore wind farm in the German North Sea reached full commercial operation in December 2017, when the last of its 18 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines was connected to the grid. This marked completion of the 110.7–111 MW nearshore project located about 15 km north‑east of Wangerooge Island and 18 km north of Wilhelmshaven. Developed by wpd through its subsidiary OWP Nordergründe and owned by John Laing Group (30%), wpd (30%) and Gothaer Leben Renewables (40%), the project benefits from Germany’s feed‑in tariff regime. Following construction that began in May 2016, turbine installation in 2016, and offshore transformer platform installation in September 2017, the wind farm was fully commissioned and entered operational service, supplying power to more than 100,000 households.
