NeuConnect awarded Siemens Energy a major turnkey contract for the NeuConnect Interconnector to design, supply and build the project’s two onshore HVDC converter stations. Siemens Energy is delivering the complete HVDC PLUS transmission system, including engineering, procurement and construction of converter stations on the Isle of Grain in Kent and near Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany. Its scope covers converter design, provision of HVDC valves, transformers, switchgear and control systems, civil works for the converter compounds, and testing and commissioning so that up to 1.4 GW can flow bidirectionally between the UK and German grids. Siemens Energy acts as main contractor for all converter-station works during the construction phase.
