The European Investment Bank (EIB) provided project financing for the NEUCONNECT INTERCONNECTOR, supporting implementation of the first electricity interconnector between the United Kingdom and Germany. The EIB facility was signed on 21/07/2022 and totalled €380.99262148 million, disclosed across multiple signature tranches on the same date. The EIB project listing identified the promoter as “NEUCONNECT INTERCONNECTOR” (special purpose entity/fund) and recorded an approximate total project cost of EUR 2,401 million. The financed asset was described as a 1,400 MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link across the North Sea, with a DC voltage of 525 kV and a total route length of 720 km, of which 706 km was offshore. The offshore route was stated to cross German, Dutch and British waters, enabling cross-border electricity trade and supporting renewable integration objectives. The EIB documentation noted that environmental impact studies had been carried out and that procurement for implementation contracts was expected to follow applicable EU procurement legislation and tendering requirements where relevant.
