NeuConnect, the 1.4 GW HVDC interconnector linking the Isle of Grain in Kent with Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany via around 725 km of land and subsea cables, is planned to be completed and start full commercial operation in 2028. Once operational, it will form the first direct power link between the UK and Germany, enabling bidirectional electricity flows sufficient to supply approximately 1.5 million homes and enhancing energy security and integration of renewable energy in both markets.
