Siemens (now operating its HVDC activities as Siemens Energy) was awarded a major contract by Nemo Link Limited in June 2015 to deliver the complete onshore HVDC converter station systems for the 1,000 MW Nemo Link interconnector between Richborough in Kent, UK, and Herdersbrug near Zeebrugge, Belgium. Siemens Energy designed the HVDC PLUS scheme, supplied the converter valves, transformers and associated HVDC equipment, and executed the turnkey construction, installation and commissioning of two ±400 kV VSC-MMC converter stations, one in each country. The scope also included a five‑year service and maintenance agreement covering the converter stations after commercial operation began in early 2019. This role spans detailed engineering, manufacturing of primary HVDC components, civil and electrical works to build and energise both converter sites, and subsequent operational support to ensure high availability of the interconnector.
