J. Murphy & Sons was awarded a subcontract, in partnership with Siemens, to develop the Nemo Link onshore converter station and associated compound buildings at Richborough in Kent, UK. Under this contract Murphy’s power division undertook the civil engineering and building construction for nine structures on the 8 ha converter station site, forming the physical infrastructure to house Siemens’ HVDC equipment and auxiliaries. The work, carried out during 2016–2017 as part of the construction phase, included building foundations, structural works and facilities within the converter compound to support installation and commissioning of the HVDC converter plant for the 1,000 MW UK‑Belgium interconnector.
