Onshore construction for TenneT's Net op zee Nederwiek 2 connection at Maasvlakte, including installation of underground land cables from Slufterstrand to the converter station area and related civil works on the beach, is reported as underway by 16 February 2026. Windtech International describes this work as progressing and notes that the land cable phase has been completed, indicating that onshore construction started no later than this date (later than the originally projected June 2024 start).
In support of load-out operations for three 2 GW offshore converter platforms under TenneT’s programme, including the Nederwiek 2 topside, Seatrium contracted heavy-lift specialist Mammoet to perform skidded load-outs from its fabrication yards onto transport vessels, using hydraulically compensated skidding equipment to manage the large topside weights.
Fabrication of the Nederwiek 2 offshore HVDC converter platform progressed to the first steel cut on 5 February 2026, marked by ceremonies at Seatrium’s yards in Singapore and Batam, Indonesia, making it the third 2 GW platform under TenneT’s series-build programme to enter fabrication and targeting commissioning around 2032.

Nederwiek 2 is a 2,000 MW (2 GW) offshore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) grid connection that forms part of TenneT’s standardised 2 GW programme in the Dutch and German North Sea. The system will collect power generated in the Nederwiek wind farm zone via 66 kV AC array cables and deliver it ...

On 29 October 2025, the dune borehole campaign on the Maasvlakte (“Duinboringen op Maasvlakte succesvol afgerond”) was completed, marking the successful conclusion of onshore geotechnical investigations for the Maasvlakte Net op zee grid connections, including the Nederwiek 2 connection that will land at Maasvlakte and link into the new Amaliahaven high-voltage substation.
TenneT awarded ABL Group a marine warranty survey contract covering installation of three 2 GW export cable systems, including the Nederwiek 2 grid connection, under which ABL’s Hamburg-based team will review and approve documentation, procedures, and suitability of vessels, and attend fabrication, load-out, and offshore operations through to 2029.
On 24 June 2024, TenneT announced that all decisions necessary for the realisation of the Net op zee Nederwiek 2 offshore grid connection are now final, which grants permission to start construction and confirms that the overall project development consents have been awarded.
As part of TenneT’s mid-2024 contract award for the Nederwiek 2 2 GW HVDC grid connection, Seatrium was selected to engineer, procure, construct, transport, install, and commission the offshore HVDC converter platform topside that will serve as the offshore substation for the project, under the GE Vernova–Seatrium consortium framework.
On 20 April 2023, TenneT signed the framework agreement with the GE/Seatrium (formerly SMOP/Sembcorp Marine) consortium for IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 2. The project-specific call-off for Nederwiek 2 was confirmed in mid-2024.
Transmission system operator TenneT selected NKT to supply and install the 525 kV XLPE HVDC export cable system for the Nederwiek 2 offshore grid connection, as part of a multi-project award that also covers IJmuiden Ver Beta and IJmuiden Ver Gamma, with the cables landing onshore at Maasvlakte in the Netherlands.
