In ESB’s 25 July 2025 press release marking the completion and full operation of the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm, the company notes that the project’s dedicated operations and maintenance (O&M) base in Eyemouth opened in January 2023. This purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility serves as the onshore hub for managing the 450 MW wind farm, which lies 15.5 km off the Fife coast and comprises 54 turbines. Although the announcement is focused on celebrating NnG’s transition to full operations, it explicitly confirms that the O&M base had already been in use for over two years by the time of the completion ceremony. The press release explains that the Eyemouth O&M base is already playing a significant role in the local community and will continue to do so throughout the project’s planned 25-year operational life. Around 50 high-quality jobs are directly associated with running the wind farm from this base, highlighting its importance as a long-term anchor for local employment and supply-chain activity. The base also functions as a focal point for engagement with residents, schoolchildren and community groups who are benefiting from sponsorships and grants funded by NnG’s development. As such, the January 2023 opening of the Eyemouth facility represents a key construction and readiness milestone that underpins the safe and efficient operation of Neart na Gaoithe over its full lifetime.
