In November 2012, an application for planning permission for the onshore grid connection infrastructure for Neart na Gaoithe—comprising approximately 12.3 km of buried onshore export cables from Thorntonloch Beach to a new onshore substation at Crystal Rig—was submitted to East Lothian Council, initiating consent procedures for the HVAC transmission link that would later form part of the Neart na Gaoithe OFTO assets.
