By the time of publication of the 2026 techno-economic and spatial analysis for wind energy on Kythira, a preliminary routing design had been completed for the proposed high-voltage electrical interconnection between Kythira and the Greek mainland near Neapoli. The study reports that internal and external cable routes were drawn to determine required lengths, yielding approximately 19 km of submarine cable plus about 10 km of high-voltage cable to reach the Public Power Corporation (PPC) substation on the mainland, with substation locations chosen to minimise submarine distance and avoid sensitive protected areas while connecting to the planned PPC substation in Neapolis via a 170 kV cable corridor of around 20 km offshore and 12 km onshore.
