DELAYED +3yr (Apr 2026): Elia postponed HVDC converter contracts for Princess Elisabeth Island on 4 Feb 2025 due to overheated HVDC supply chain and unprecedented price increases. Contract formally ditched 10 Jun 2025. Belgian government mandated alternative concept at lower cost. Elia estimates ~3 year delay to overall project. Nautilus depends on HVDC converter on Princess Elisabeth Island. --- National Grid Ventures indicates that, following consent and a Final Investment Decision in 2024, and subsequent construction, the Nautilus Interconnector could be operational by 2028. At that point, the 1.4 GW multi-purpose interconnector between Great Britain and Belgium is expected to be in service, enabling power exchanges and offshore wind integration.
