Smulders (Eiffage Métal’s subsidiary) was awarded by RTE an EPCIC contract (engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning) to develop and build alternating-current offshore substations for the Bretagne Sud (AO5), Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault and Golfe de Fos offshore wind farms and their future extensions (AO9). For the Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault connection (covering the AO9 extension area), the scope included the jacket foundation and the topside structure housing electrical equipment, with the topsides stated to weigh around 5,000 tonnes. The jackets were to be assembled at Eiffage Métal’s Fos-sur-Mer site in France and the topsides assembled in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, using Smulders’ and industrial partners’ fabrication facilities in France and Europe.
