Vattenfall Eldistribution completed a grid reinforcement project on the island of Nämdö in Stockholm County, building eight new distribution substations, about 2.5 km of underground cable and 8 km of new overhead line to improve electrical safety and supply reliability. The project was finished in spring 2023, marking the completion and commissioning of the new onshore substations.
Vattenfall Eldistribution press release from 14 June 2021 on the Värmdö archipelago grid upgrade states that the modernised line out to Sandön (Sandhamn) is expected to be taken into operation by the end of that same week; given publication on Monday 14 June and explicit wording "beräknas tas i drift i slutet på veckan", commercial operation at full power is interpreted as having started by Friday 18 June 2021.
By mid-June 2021, Vattenfall Eldistribution AB had commenced onshore construction works to modernise, weather-proof and uprate the electricity network serving Nämdö, Runmarö and out to Sandön, including installation of new transformers and lines, isolation or burial of overhead lines, and deployment of personnel, boats and a helicopter to carry out the works.
