Vattenfall Eldistribution completed a grid reinforcement project on the island of Nämdö in Stockholm County, building eight new distribution substations, about 2.5 km of underground cable and 8 km of new overhead line to improve electrical safety and supply reliability. The project was finished in spring 2023, marking the completion and commissioning of the new onshore substations.

Vattenfall Eldistribution AB states that the modernised electricity line out to Sandön, forming part of the upgraded grid serving Nämdö, Runmarö and surrounding islands, is expected to be taken into operation by the end of the week following 15 June 2021, enabling a more reliable, weather-secured and remotely controllable supply. This commissioning of the upgraded line will complete a key step in modernising the archipelago network, including new transformers, cables and technical equipment to provide reserve feeding and reduce outage duration.
