On 16 December 2025, ONE-Dyas and partners EBN and Tenaz Energy energised the subsea power cable from the Riffgat offshore wind farm to the N05-A platform in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, so that the platform began operating on electricity from offshore wind. This milestone made N05-A the first gas production platform in the North Sea to run on power from an offshore wind farm and enabled near-zero-emission operations for both gas production and the planned mobile drilling unit connected via the N05-A Platform (GEMS) cable.
On 11 December 2025, ONE-Dyas and its partners EBN and Tenaz Energy completed the subsea power cable connection between the N05-A gas platform and the German offshore wind farm Riffgat, enabling the platform to be fully powered by renewable electricity and to produce natural gas using this connection. The nine-kilometre subsea power cable is now in operation, making N05-A the first natural gas production platform in the Dutch and German North Sea to run on offshore wind energy.
From December 2025, a mobile drilling rig is planned to be temporarily connected to the N05-A platform and powered via the Riffgat wind farm cable so that drilling of additional wells, including a second N05-A well and German-side wells, can be carried out fully on wind-generated electricity with near-zero emissions during drilling operations.
On 6 October 2025, Tenaz Energy Corp. acquired all the shares of a private company holding non‑operated interests in the GEMS project licences on the Dutch–German North Sea border, including the producing N05‑A platform, which has a 9 km subsea power connection to the Riffgat offshore wind farm. The US$244 million transaction gives Tenaz a 27% working interest in the N4/N5/N8 production licence that covers N05‑A, adding a stake in the electrified N05‑A platform and its associated infrastructure to Tenaz’s portfolio.

ONE-Dyas awarded N-Sea a contract covering survey, design, supply, engineering, transport, installation, burial, termination and testing of an approximately 9–10 km subsea power cable linking the Riffgat offshore wind farm in the German North Sea to the new N05-A gas production platform in Dutch waters, enabling the platform to operate on electrical power from wind and significantly lowering emissions for the GEMS project.
In December 2022, ONE-Dyas commenced construction of the N05-A production platform for the GEMS project, marked by the first steel being cut. The platform is being built at a yard in Schiedam before its later transport to the offshore location in the North Sea.
ONE-Dyas and its partners EBN and Hansa Hydrocarbons (Discover Exploration) took the final investment decision for the N05-A project, including the electrified platform and power cable connection to the Riffgat offshore wind farm, in September 2022, approving an investment of more than €500 million, the largest Dutch natural gas development investment in 15 years and enabling construction and electrification works under the GEMS programme to proceed.

On 3 June 2022, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, granted ONE-Dyas the final omgevingsvergunningen (environmental/development permits) for the development of the N05-A gas field in the Dutch North Sea, giving the Dutch government’s green light for gas production from N05-A and surrounding fields.
Authority: Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat (EZK) · Licence: Milieueffectrapport (MER) voor gaswinning N05-A, ingediend met winningsplan en vergunningaanvragen
On 13 October 2020, ONE-Dyas submitted the extraction plan for gas field N05-A, together with the applications for the environmental (omgevingsvergunning) and pipeline and power cable installation permits, including the Milieueffectrapport (MER, Environmental Impact Assessment), to the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK). This marked the formal filing of the EIA documentation required to decide on gas production in block N05-A in the North Sea.
By 15 May 2019, GEOxyz had completed the offshore geophysical survey campaign for the N05-A platform area, the gas pipeline route to the NGT hot tap and the power cable route to the Riffgat transformer station, with work divided between the vessels Geo Ocean III and Geo Surveyor VIII across the defined route sections.
