In spring 2013, following a series of serious cable faults on the Moyle Interconnector, the Northern Ireland regulatory authority (Utility Regulator NI) provided formal support via a published exchange of letters for Moyle Interconnector Limited’s proposed long‑term solution to lay new low‑voltage submarine cables along a similar route in order to augment the existing cables and replace the faulty return conductors, thereby underpinning the Moyle Returns cable replacement project and its cost recovery under Moyle’s licence framework.
