Gardline Geosurvey Ltd was contracted by Nexans to perform a pre-installation geophysical survey for the Moyle Interconnector replacement metallic return conductors. The company surveyed two proposed cable route corridors, each approximately 53 km long, between the landfalls at Currarie Bay, Scotland and Portmuck, Northern Ireland. The work included analogue geophysical surveys using multi beam and single beam echo sounders, sub-bottom profiler and side-scan sonar, followed by a magnetometer survey to detect metalliferous targets and possible unexploded ordnance (UXO). The objective was to develop a hazard-free route and support burial and protection design for the new cables.
