In 2024, the Morven Offshore Wind Project reached a key early development milestone by completing a major programme of offshore surveys that included extensive geophysical data acquisition. According to the project’s official website, Morven conducted offshore surveys comprising environmental sampling at 45 locations and geophysical data collection from conventional vessels. In addition, the project acquired over 8,000 line-kilometres of geophysical data using uncrewed surface vessels, demonstrating a large-scale, systematic campaign across the planned development area. This activity was carried out to assist with Morven’s ongoing development in Scottish waters. The surveys support the Morven Offshore Wind Farm array sites, Morven North and Morven South, and their associated Hawthorn Pit grid connection project off the coast of Aberdeenshire in the North Sea. Morven is being developed by Morven Offshore Wind Limited, a joint venture between EnBW and JERA Nex bp, and requires both offshore and onshore infrastructure to connect to the National Grid transmission network. The completion of this 2024 geophysical survey campaign provides the project partners with critical data to inform subsequent phases of project design, assessment and consenting. By explicitly reporting that these offshore surveys and associated geophysical data acquisition were conducted in 2024, the project’s website implies that this phase of geophysical survey activity has been concluded within that year, marking a clear geophysical survey completion milestone for Morven.
