Turnkey 220 kV AC submarine export cable system for Moray East, total offshore cable route lengths 3 x approx. 60 km; NKT manufactured, transported and installed approximately 180 km of cable in three circuits.
NKT supplied the offshore export cable system that forms the Moray East OFTO transmission link connecting the 950 MW Moray East offshore wind farm to the UK grid. Under a turnkey 220 kV AC submarine cable contract with project developer Moray East Offshore Windfarm Ltd (MOWEL), NKT manufactured, transported, installed and buried approximately 180 km of offshore export cables in three circuits, each with a route length of about 60 km between the offshore substations and landfall. NKT’s scope covered delivery and offshore installation using its cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria, with installation planned from 2020 ahead of full commissioning in 2021. NKT was first selected as preferred bidder in November 2017 and subsequently signed the final binding agreement in November 2018, with the order valued at around EUR 150 million.
