Installation of the Moray East onshore export cable system started in October 2018, when Siemens Energy and its subcontractor VolkerInfra began laying more than 300,000 metres of high‑voltage cable along the 34.5 km route from near Banff to the new onshore substation at New Deer, using trenching and horizontal directional drilling to connect the offshore export circuits into the grid.
