On 2 November 2018, NKT confirmed it had signed a binding turnkey contract with Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Limited (MOWEL) for the manufacture and installation of approximately 175 km of 220 kV AC offshore export cables for the Moray East offshore wind farm. The contract, valued at approximately EUR 150 million, followed a preferred bidder agreement signed on 13 November 2017 that had been conditional on the project reaching Final Investment Decision. NKT's scope covered design, manufacture, supply, installation, and commissioning of three export cable circuits connecting the offshore substation platform to the onshore grid connection point at New Deer in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The cables were manufactured at NKT's facility in Cologne, Germany, and installed by NKT's cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria during 2019–2020 marine campaigns. Installation of all three export cable circuits was completed by mid-October 2020, giving a total cable lead time of approximately 24 months from contract confirmation to installation complete — consistent with typical timelines for 220 kV HVAC export cable systems of this length.
