DELAYED +11mo (Apr 2026): The onshore construction start projection of 1 January 2026 is past due with no evidence that MaresConnect has begun construction. A Foresight article from November 2025 states that construction is planned to begin at the end of 2026, with commercial operations expected by 2029. This updated schedule makes early 2026 unrealistic, so the onshore construction start is delayed to late 2026 (December 2026). --- Project planning documents indicate that installation of the MaresConnect converter stations and HVDC interconnector cables, both onshore and offshore, is scheduled to take place during the 2026 construction phase linking EirGrid’s network in the Greater Dublin Area with National Grid’s Bodelwyddan substation in North Wales.
