In February 2012, Enemalta commissioned Swedish company MMT to perform subsea surveys along an 80m-wide corridor between Marina di Ragusa in Sicily and Qalet Marku in Malta, starting detailed marine geophysical investigations to refine the route of the Malta–Sicily interconnector cable.
