In October 2022, Interconnect Malta awarded both Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultancy tenders for the 2nd Malta-Sicily cable link, appointing HPC Italia S.r.l. to undertake the Italian EIA and AIS Environment Ltd. to carry out the Maltese EIA, thereby securing specialist consultants to lead the environmental studies on each side of the interconnector route.
