In August 2022, following a competitive tender, Interconnect Malta awarded the Preliminary Marine Route Survey (PMRS) contract for the Malta–Sicily Cable Link 2 offshore corridor to Fugro Italy S.p.A., enabling marine surveying activities to commence.
