In February 2025, Interconnect Malta reported that onshore cable production commenced under tender CT3003/2024 for the manufacture and installation of the onshore high-voltage and fibre-optic cables for the second Malta–Sicily electrical interconnector (IC2). This marks the start of factory manufacturing for the project’s onshore cable system under the dedicated onshore cables contract.
