Nexans reached a key construction milestone on the Malta–Sicily Interconnector 2 project when production of project components was reported to be well underway, with fibre optic elements being manufactured at its Rognan plant in Norway and almost half of the required 104 km of fibre already produced, tested and shipped to its high-voltage cable plant in Charleston, South Carolina, where subsea cable production and testing for the 245 kV HVAC interconnector are ongoing.
