Following award of the Preliminary Marine Route Survey (PMRS) contract to Fugro Italy, Interconnect Malta kicked off offshore surveying activities for the Malta–Sicily Interconnector 2 in August 2022. The PMRS campaign began collecting geophysical data along the planned subsea cable route between Malta and Sicily to refine routing and de-risk later installation.
