In June 2021, the cabinet of the Government of Malta decided to proceed with construction of the second Malta–Sicily interconnector (IC2) and delegated Interconnect Malta (ICM) to develop and implement the approximately 122 km, 225 MW HVAC cable link between Maghtab and Ragusa, marking the formal investment decision to move the project forward.
