On 26 August 2023, Malta’s Environment and Resources Authority approved the Environmental Impact Assessment for Interconnector 2, confirming that the second Malta–Italy submarine cable project would not have negative impacts on marine and terrestrial environments, subject to agreed mitigation measures.
