On 8 July 2025, the European Investment Bank approved EUR 168 million of financing for the SECOND INTERCONNECTOR MALTA SICILIA project (Malta Sicily Cable Link 2), marking formal EIB capital support for construction of the new 225 MW, 220 kV subsea electricity interconnector between Maghtab in Malta and Ragusa in Sicily.
