132 kV AC submarine interconnection between Mallorca and Ibiza (Rómulo 2), second circuit turnkey HVAC cable system by Prysmian
Prysmian Group received a contract worth approximately EUR 85 million from Red Eléctrica de España (REE) for the second circuit of the Mallorca–Ibiza Rómulo 2 interconnection. The turnkey scope covers design, supply and installation of a 132 kV HVAC cable system rated at 118 MVA, comprising extruded high voltage submarine cables with integrated fibre optics and associated land cables. The second circuit follows a total route of over 123 km, including about 115 km of submarine cable between the bays of Talamanca (Ibiza) and Santa Ponsa (Mallorca) and 8.6 km of underground land cable sections. Submarine cables are manufactured at Prysmian’s Arco Felice plant in Italy, while land cables and optical components are produced in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Spain. Marine installation, including deep-water lay operations down to around 750 m and protection works, is performed using Prysmian’s cable-laying vessel Giulio Verne, with completion scheduled in 2015.
