132 kV AC submarine interconnection between Mallorca and Ibiza (Rómulo 2), turnkey HVAC submarine cable system by Nexans
Nexans was awarded a turnkey contract by Red Eléctrica de España (REE) to create a high voltage submarine power link between Mallorca and Ibiza, forming part of the Rómulo 2 interconnection. The scope covered design, manufacture, supply, installation, protection and commissioning of a 132 kV AC submarine cable system, including about 115 km of three-core XLPE-insulated submarine cable with integrated fibre optics and 24 km of single-core high voltage land cable, plus associated accessories. The submarine cable was manufactured at Nexans’ Halden facility in Norway with fibre optics from Rognan, while the land cable came from Charleroi and accessories from Cossonay. Installation and burial were carried out using Nexans’ cable-laying vessel C/S Nexans Skagerrak and its CapJet trenching system, with commissioning scheduled for 2013–2014.
