Red Eléctrica de España completed the main construction phases of the new 132 kV three-core submarine-underground electricity link between Menorca and Majorca within an 18‑month programme following its November 2018 authorisation. This included managing the tender and installation of the cable, executing the 41.7 km underwater section and its burial for protection, building the land routes (12.5 km in Menorca and 742 m in Majorca), and enlarging the Cala Mesquida (Majorca) and Ciutadella (Menorca) substations, leaving the infrastructure physically ready for energisation and operation as part of the unified Balearic and mainland grid.
