Red Eléctrica de España began installation of the new Mallorca–Menorca interconnector cable on 7 November 2019, when the cable-laying vessel Nexans Skagerrak started subsea laying of the three-core 132 kV submarine cable from Cala en Bosc (Ciutadella, Menorca) towards Cala Mesquida (Capdepera, Majorca). The route involves about 41 km of cable on the seabed at up to around 81 m depth and additional underground sections on both islands, forming part of an €84 million project to reinforce Menorca’s electricity supply and integrate it with the wider Balearic and mainland Spanish systems.
