A March 2024 general briefing note from the Colonsay Community Development Company (CCDC) records that the final investment decision (FID) for the MachairWind offshore wind project is planned for 2029. This information comes from a 23 February 2024 meeting between members of the Colonsay community Machair Wind group and the project’s local engagement team, where the developer provided an update on project progress. The note explicitly states that “the final investment decision is planned for 2029,” indicating the developer’s current target for locking in full funding and commitment to proceed to construction. The same document includes a February 2024 MachairWind project update slide deck, which sets out an indicative timetable for key milestones. Site investigation surveys are shown running from 2023 to 2025, with project consent targeted around 2026, construction start in the late 2020s, and first export of power in the early 2030s. Within this framework, a 2029 FID fits between the expected consent decision and the planned start of offshore construction activities. The briefing note and slides together therefore present a coherent schedule in which MachairWind remains in early development through the mid‑2020s, with FID as a major gating decision toward the end of the decade that will enable the transition into the construction phase and ultimately first power in the early 2030s, subject to change as the project develops.
