On 9 March 2011, project partners DONG Energy, E.ON and Masdar announced that the first of 177 monopile foundations for the London Array offshore wind farm had been installed in the Thames Estuary, about 20 km off the Kent and Essex coasts. A 268-tonne monopile and its transition piece were installed by joint venture Per Aarsleff Bilfinger Berger Ingenieurbeu using the jack-up barge Sea Worker, marking the start of the offshore foundation installation campaign for the project’s turbines and substations.
