Future Energy, a joint venture formed by Fabricom, Iemants and Geosea, designed, built and installed the two offshore HVAC substations for the London Array Phase 1 grid connection, later transferred into the London Array OFTO. Each three‑level platform was fabricated and assembled onshore, transported to site in the Outer Thames Estuary and installed on pre‑installed foundations using heavy‑lift vessels. The substations step up the turbine array voltage from 33 kV to 150 kV and serve as the offshore hubs for four export cables feeding the onshore substation at Cleve Hill, where power enters National Grid’s 400 kV network. Future Energy’s scope covered overall offshore substation platform design, structural fabrication and offshore installation, including integration of electrical systems supplied by Siemens Transmission and Distribution Limited.
