Two 320 kV HVDC cables connecting Hunterston (Scotland) and Kilroot (Northern Ireland); total cable route length around 142 km.
A-2-Sea Solutions was appointed by Transmission Investment to undertake pre-construction landfall and marine site investigation surveys for the LirIC HVDC interconnector. The campaign, scheduled to commence after 9 June 2025, used the survey vessels Mintaka 1 and White Ribbon and comprised geophysical data acquisition (hull‑mounted and towed sensors) followed by a benthic environmental programme of video imagery and in‑situ grab sampling. Surveys covered two cable corridors across the proposed LirIC route of approximately 142 km and were planned for a minimum period of 50 days, weather permitting.
