Siemens was awarded an order by Lincs Wind Farm Ltd to implement the grid connection for the Lincs offshore wind farm in the UK and to supply up to 75 of its 3.6 MW wind turbines with 120 m rotor diameter. Siemens’ grid-connection scope included supplying an offshore substation platform with transformers and 132 kV/33 kV switchgear and associated protection and control systems, and delivering the onshore grid connection works at the Walpole 400 kV substation including transformers, switchgear, and reactive power compensation (SVC Plus), along with related electrical and grid design studies. Siemens was also identified as the design-build contractor for the grid connection including offshore substation, onshore substation and laying of cables onshore.
