In April 2022, after a rotor and blade assembly fell into the sea at the Anholt offshore wind farm in Denmark, Ørsted requested that authorities establish temporary no-sail safety zones around all its offshore projects using the same Siemens Gamesa 3.6–4 MW turbine model, including the Lincs offshore wind farm in the UK. These navigation exclusion areas were introduced as a precautionary regulatory measure to protect vessels and personnel while the incident’s root cause was investigated, with Lincs continuing to operate under enhanced safety protocols.
