Centrica Energy submitted the Section 36 application under the Electricity Act 1989 to the Department of Trade and Industry / Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) in January 2007 for the 270 MW, 75-turbine Lincs offshore wind farm located approximately 8 km east of Skegness off the Lincolnshire coast in The Wash, North Sea. The supporting Environmental Statement Non-Technical Summary was published in January 2007. Centrica had acquired the development rights from Renewable Energy Systems (RES) in 2004 following The Crown Estate's December 2003 Round 2 lease awards. The proximity to the existing Lynn and Inner Dowsing Round 1 development allowed shared infrastructure planning. Planning consent was announced by the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in October 2008, 19 months after the original submission. Construction commenced in 2010 and full commercial operation began in October 2013. Centrica subsequently sold its 50% stake in 2016 alongside the Lynn and Inner Dowsing projects.
