CESI S.p.A. carried out the LatviaGotlandSweden interconnection feasibility study for the LaSGo (LatviaSwedenGotland Island) HVDC subsea interconnector project at the request of Latvia's transmission system operator AS "Augstsprieguma t-kls" (AST). The study work was performed during 2024 and its results were presented to the involved parties at the beginning of 2025. CESI's scope covered assessment of technological solutions for an HVDC submarine interconnection in two mutually inclusive stages (SwedenGotland and GotlandLatvia), including evaluation of configuration options alongside route and connection options. The study analysed impacts on the Latvian and Swedish transmission networks, including power flow assessments and static and dynamic stability calculations, and identified potential needs for network reinforcement measures to maintain system security and operational stability. In addition, CESI completed market modelling and a costbenefit/economic analysis to evaluate the project's socioeconomic and financial indicators. The work was prepared using network and market models for Latvia and the wider European system and was used by AST to inform discussions with Svenska kraftne4t on continued cooperation for LaSGo project development.
