LanWin4 export cable system: ±525 kV HVDC bipole, 2 GW connection from German North Sea cluster NOR-11-2 to the onshore grid at Wilhelmshaven via approximately 238 km of offshore and onshore export cables.
Nexans was awarded by TenneT a long-term framework agreement in May 2023 covering the 2 GW BalWin3, LanWin4 and LanWin2 offshore grid connections in the German North Sea, followed by a project-specific call-off contract for BalWin3 and LanWin4 announced in March 2024. Under this agreement, Nexans is responsible for the turnkey engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the ±525 kV HVDC export cable systems, including both subsea and onshore sections. For LanWin4, the scope covers design, manufacture and installation of the 2 GW export cable link between the NOR-11-2 offshore wind cluster and the German onshore grid at Wilhelmshaven, using Nexans’ 525 kV HVDC XLPE technology. Subsea cables are to be produced at Nexans’ Halden plant in Norway, with dedicated investment in Charleroi, Belgium to supply the associated 525 kV onshore cables. The works form part of TenneT’s 2 GW program, with LanWin4 planned to be operational around 2031.
