On 5 May 2023, TenneT awarded multi‑billion‑euro contracts for 525 kV HVDC cable systems to NKT, Nexans, and a consortium of Jan De Nul, LS Cable & System, and Denys. Under this award, the Jan De Nul–LS Cable–Denys consortium was selected to realise the cable connections for BalWin4 and LanWin1, both landing in the Unterweser area, and LanWin5 in the Rastede area in Lower Saxony. The scope for LanWin1 includes cable design, engineering, production, delivery, and onshore, offshore, and nearshore installation and jointing as part of TenneT’s 2 GW program.
