HEP ODS is implementing an EU‑funded submarine cable project worth EUR 26.71 million that runs until 30 June 2026, during which a total of 65.78 km of 35 kV and 54.72 km of 20 kV submarine cables will be laid, including the PKB 35(20) kV Korita–Stratinčica submarine cable section in the Dubrovnik distribution area, which corresponds to the Korčula–Lastovo inter‑island link.
Financing for the reconstruction of the submarine cable, including the Korcula–Lastovo link, was secured through a grant agreement under the National Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. A contract for non‑repayable funds for the project "Modernizacija hrvatske distribucijske elektroenergetske mreže" (NPOO.C1.2.R1-I1.02.0001) was concluded between the Ministry of Economy, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund as the implementing body, and HEP – Operator distribucijskog sustava d.o.o. as beneficiary, within a wider submarine cables project allocated HRK 201.25 million in NPOO co‑financing.
Authority: Županijska skupština Dubrovačko-neretvanske županije (Dubrovnik-Neretva County Assembly) · Licence: Concession for special use of maritime domain for laying the 10 kV three-core submarine cable Stratinčica (Korčula) – Korita (Lastovo)
The Dubrovnik-Neretva County Assembly (Županijska skupština Dubrovačko-neretvanske županije) unanimously adopted a decision to grant a concession for the special use of maritime domain for the 10 kV three-core submarine cable between Stratinčica on Korčula and Korita on Lastovo, enabling installation of the Korcula–Lastovo interconnector cable along this route.
In 1960, the original Korčula-Lastovo submarine power cable was laid and energised, connecting the island of Lastovo to the Croatian mainland electricity grid for the first time. The route runs from uvala Stratinčica on Korčula (near Brna) to uvala Korita on Lastovo (near Zaklopatica), thence underground to the 10 kV Sozanj switchgear serving the local distribution network on Lastovo. The cable is a 10 kV three-core submarine cable of approximately 14.75 km subsea length. This 1960 installation marked the end of Lastovo's electrical isolation (the island had previously been served from circa 1930 by a small local public generator per Razvoj elektrifikacije Hrvatske). A pre-1960 cable attempt had been laid but was damaged during installation and never energised, subsequently extracted and scrapped (HEP Vjesnik 224, Sept 2009). Since 1995 the 1960 cable has served as backup feed, with the primary feed supplied via a newer 35 kV (operated at 20 kV) cable on the Gršćica-Zarebra route (separate project). Operator: HEP ODS d.o.o. Recorded during manual audit review 2026-04-15 from research of official Croatian municipal planning and HEP archives.
Tim Kabel d.o.o. acted as cable supplier for HEP – Operator distribucijskog sustava d.o.o. by delivering a specially designed combined energy and communications submarine cable, manufactured at Hengtong’s factory in Changzhou, China, to connect several Adriatic islands including Korčula and Lastovo. The 20 kV Cu/XLPE/CWS/APL/PE/PP/SWA/PP 3×120 + 48C G652d cable, weighing a total of 950 tonnes, was tested by engineers from HEP and Končar before delivery, confirming Tim Kabel/Hengtong as the cable supplier for the Korčula–Lastovo link.
