The EU has designated the renewal of the Konti-Skan 1 and 2 HVDC interconnectors between Lindome in Sweden and Vester Hassing in Denmark as a Project of Common Interest (PCI), recognising that replacing the ageing links with a new 1,000 MW HVDC connection is needed to maintain reliable transmission between SE3 and DK1 and benefits the wider Nordic electricity market. This PCI, referred to by Svenska kraftnät as the project to renew the Konti-Skan 1 and 2 cables, is planned while the existing links remain in operation until the new link is completed.
